Silicon dioxide is an inorganic compound with a high melting point, insolubility in water, and stable chemical properties; There are two forms: crystalline and amorphous. Not reacting with water. It has high fire resistance, high temperature resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high insulation, corrosion resistance, piezoelectric effect, resonance effect, and its unique optical properties. Crystalline silicon dioxide has a melting point of 1723 ℃ and a boiling point of 2230 ℃, and is insoluble in water. Except for fluorine gas and hydrofluoric acid, silicon dioxide does not react with halogens, hydrogen halides, and inorganic acids, but can dissolve in hot concentrated alkali, molten strong alkali, or sodium carbonate. Dissolve in excess hydrofluoric acid to generate silicon tetrafluoride gas. Can be corroded by hot concentrated phosphoric acid. Almost insoluble in water or other acids. Amorphous powders can slowly dissolve in concentrated alkaline solutions. Can interact with molten alkalis to form soluble silicates. The coefficient of thermal expansion is the smallest among known substances. The molten material appears glassy.

Application:

1. Silicon dioxide is the main raw material for manufacturing glass. Glass made solely from silicon dioxide is called quartz glass, which has characteristics such as high temperature resistance and UV transmission. Silicon dioxide is also an important raw material for manufacturing optical fibers.

2. Moisture resistant adsorbent. Used for moisture prevention in food; Adsorb high molecular weight proteins from fermented products during industrial fermentation processes; Drying and purification agents for various industrial gases (CO2, H2, O2, etc.).

3. As an anti caking agent, it can be used as powder essence according to Chinese regulations, with the maximum dosage of 80g/kg; It can also be used for milk powder, cocoa powder, egg powder, vegetable fat powder, and instant coffee, with a maximum usage of 15.0g/kg.

4. Used for manufacturing silica sol, used for bonding between glass surfaces such as cathode ray tubes, projection tubes, and cathode ray tubes and fluorescent powders. A large amount of silica is used as a reinforcing agent for rubber and as an opening agent to prevent plastic film adhesion.

5. About 70% of white carbon black is used as a reinforcing filler for natural rubber and synthetic rubber, and other fillers for synthetic resins, ink thickeners, anti settling agents for pigments in coatings, and anti settling agents in emulsifiers.
